I don’t begin with an image. I begin with a surface and a flame. Fire takes what is weak and leaves what is true, and the work begins with whatever survives.
The script
Every work is titled and sealed in Nashara, a script I.Y. built between Phoenician stone and the Japanese brush. Seventeen consonants, five vowel marks and a breath carrier, written in two hands: stone for permanence, water for breath.
The titles beside each work are Nashara words, and each series carries its own Nashara sign.
Words die. Echoes remain. The first saying of Nashara.
The Water Hand: the brushed form of the script.
